March 9-12th, 2005 Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation (continued)
Friday evening, March 11th, I was invited to attend a reception for the families of missing persons and homicide victims. I met several of these family members. I visited with Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson’s mom, for quite a while. You talk about heart wrenching. What all these people are going through, I just can’t imagine. You hear about these crimes on the news, but when you look into the eyes of the victims love ones, it really hits you in a much deeper way.
I hope the song “Somebody’s Somebody” will touch the lives of people around the world as it has touched mine. My hope is that it will help us to slow down, think and be careful, because we too belong to someone.
Saturday afternoon, March 12th, 2005, the Seventh Annual Vigil of Hope started with the Victim’s march at Graceada Park in Modesto, California. The march was led by Francis and Carole Carrington, founders of the Foundation, carrying a memorial quilt made from the clothing of their daughter and granddaughter Carole and Juli Sund and friend Silvina Pelosso.
After we finished the march, I performed an hour show of uplifting, meaningful songs, Christian and Gospel songs. As I ended my show with a powerful Gospel song, “I Go to the Rock”, I invited anyone who felt like dancing and joining me on stage to come on up.
So my new friend Daphne Mason joined me. She was great. Daphne clapped, danced and sang with so much excitement. Definitely meant to be on stage!
Daphne was there supporting her friends who lost three family members to violent crimes.
The victims are: 2000- Roy Davis – home invasion-crime unsolved
2002- Aaron Vickers – drive by mistaken identity-crime unsolved
2004- Janal Toliver – shot in the back six times –murderer was
convicted and sentenced to 77 years in prison
The family present at the Vigil was Terrance Jordan, Marcus Kelley, Tonette Robinson, Daphne Mason (friend), Dee Vickers and baby Otis.
